Gary Powell Young Illustrator Award
All 3x3 Student Show winners are eligible for this special award honoring illustrator/educator Gary Powell. The Gary Powell Young Illustrator Award winner is selected annually by a panel of British illustrators.
This year’s judges included Anna Bhushan, Andrew (Foz) Foster, Roderick Mills, and Dave Williams.
The winner receives a one-year mentorship with four leading illustrators in the United Kingdom. Included are a total of four tutorials in-person or via Skype.
The recipient of this year’s award is Shuting Pan, Camberwell College of Arts, United Kingdom. Congratulations!
The judges also wanted to bring recognition to the 2 finalists: Amelie Wang, Savannah College of Art and Design; Xiaoyu Wang, Yunnan University.
Gary Powell (1962–2017), a graduate of Central St. Martin’s School of Art & Design, established a significant international reputation as a graphic designer and award-winning illustrator working on projects that spanned editorial, design, advertising, multimedia. Noted as one of the country’s influential educators he was affiliated with a number of universities, including University of Brighton and University of Arts, London, for more than 25 years. This special award is given in his memory.
